Australian Man Claims $10.6 Million Powerball Jackpot After Cleaning Out His Wallet

A man from Australia experienced the shock of his life after finding a Powerball ticket worth $10.6 million in his wallet. The father, from Springwood in Brisbane, is now looking forward to a financially secure future with his family, and a Christmas he will never forget.

Having purchased an 18-game Quick Pick ticket from Chatswood Hills News and Casket Agency in the Chatswood Hills Shopping Centre on Magellan Road in the town, the man placed his entry in his wallet for safe keeping, only for the playslip to completely escape his memory. With no sniff of a claimant, Australian lottery officials launched a 12-day region-wide search for the winner, only for the hunt to return negative results.  

A Delightful Discovery

It wasn’t until the unsuspecting tradesman, who had won his prize in the Powerball draw on Thursday 23rd November, checked his wallet that he made the startling discovery. Speaking to lottery officials as he collected his reward, he said: “When I woke up, I cleaned out my wallet and there were a couple of old lotto tickets in there. So I used the app to check them.”

Much to the man’s delight, his entry had matched the numbers 17, 27, 33, 35, 36, 39 and Powerball 7 to land a sensational sum of $10.6 million. “When I checked this ticket, I was stunned,” the man told officials. “I wasn’t sure, so I checked it again and again.”    

Upon liaising with lottery bosses, the lucky winner, who has opted to remain anonymous, confessed that he was blissfully unaware of the campaign to find the successful ticket holder. Still in a state of jackpot-induced delirium, the man also revealed that he had no idea how he and his family would be spending the eight-figure sum.
