Canada 6/49 launched on June 12th1982 and was the first Canadian lottery to allow players to choose their own numbers. Prior to this, lottery tickets were pre-printed with the numbers making the game more akin to a raffle. Thanks to the Canada 6/49, these raffle-style draws gradually disappeared and made way for more interactive lottery games. The five participating organisations are the British Columbia Lottery Corporation, Atlantic Lottery Corporation, Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, Loto-Québec and Western Canada Lotto Corporation, all of which independently run Canada Lotto 6/49 for their selected territories but under the overall control of the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation.
Canada 6/49 requires players to choose six main numbers from a pool of 1 to 49 and matching all six numbers wins the jackpot. The minimum jackpot is CAD$5 million and, should more than one ticket holder win the top prize, the jackpot is shared equally between them.
In September 2013 a new Canada 6/49 Guaranteed Prize Draw launched, giving players the chance to win CAD$1 million in every draw. One entry into this game is free with every line of 6/49 numbers purchased.

How to Play and Win the Canada 6/49 Lotto
To play Canada 6/49, players must first choose six numbers from a choice of 1 to 49. Up to ten separate lines can be purchased on each ticket but for players in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories, Yukon and Nunavut (provinces where the lottery is operated by the Western Lottery Corporation), no more than six lines are allowed per ticket.
Jackpots start at CAD$5 million but in the event there are no top prize winners then the jackpot will roll over to the following draw. This rollover feature has enabled Canada 6/49 jackpots to grow to huge amounts and, to date, the largest top prize stands at CAD$63.4 million which was won by four ticket holders on April 13th 2013.
