New Jersey Player Wins $124 Million Mega Millions Jackpot

New Jersey celebrated another big jackpot win on Friday night as a Mega Millions jackpot of $124 million went to a player from the state. The top prize had previously not been won for more than a month.

The winning numbers on Friday 24th July were 8, 33, 39, 54 and 58, with a Mega Ball of 17. There were more than 470,000 winning tickets sold across the U.S., but only a single entry matched all the numbers.

The New Jersey Lottery announced that the ticket had been sold at Brenda’s Inc. on Kennedy Boulevard in Bayonne. The winner now has one year to come forward and claim their prize, and they will be allowed to stay anonymous if they wish following a change to the law earlier this year.

James A. Carey, the New Jersey Lottery’s executive director, said: “Congratulations to the winner of this multimillion-dollar jackpot. We encourage the winner to sign the back of the ticket, make a copy of both sides and put it in a safe place, and contact lottery headquarters.”

When the winner does come forward, they will have to choose whether to take the advertised $124 million as an annuity over 30 years, or the cash option of $100.8 million.

It has already been a successful year for New Jersey Lottery players, with four big multi-state prizes awarded to residents since the start of 2020. Carey said it was a fitting way for the New Jersey Lottery to mark 50 years since its launch.

He said: “Our 50th Anniversary year has found us on a success streak. In February it was the $202 million Mega Millions jackpot, in April the $190 million Powerball jackpot, earlier in July it was the Cash4Life $1,000 dollars a day for life jackpot, and now our second Mega Millions jackpot. We can't wait to see what the rest of the year has in store for us.”

Prior to Friday night, the Mega Millions jackpot had been rolling over since a husband and wife from Arizona landed $410 million on Tuesday 9th June. The top prize will now reset to $20 million for the next draw, after starting jackpots were adjusted in April due to the impact of coronavirus on ticket sales.

You can find the latest Mega Millions Numbers after every draw to find out if you have won the jackpot or any of the game’s other prizes.
