New Jersey has been able to celebrate its second enormous lottery win of the year after a Powerball ticket from the Garden State scooped Saturday’s jackpot. The lucky player matched all five main numbers plus the Powerball to win $315.3 million.

Winning Powerball Numbers

The numbers drawn on Saturday 19th May were 3, 6, 9, 17 and 56, with Powerball 25. Over a million participants across the US picked up prizes, but there was only one who matched the full winning line completely to halt a sequence of 15 rollovers.

The winning ticket was sold at Shoprite at 500 South River Street in Hackensack, Bergen County. The grocery store will receive a bonus cheque at a press conference on Monday morning. “We’re very excited,” said Maria Teves, a spokeswoman for Shoprite. “This is an outstanding, tremendous event for the store, the community and obviously the lucky winner.”

The winner now has a year to come forward and claim their prize. They can decide whether to take the full jackpot amount as an annuity, paid out in 30 annual instalments, or a one-off cash sum of $183 million.

More New Jersey Success

New Jersey lottery officials have congratulated the winner on their success and offered advice on what to do next. “We encourage the winner to sign the back of that winning ticket, make a copy of both sides and put it in a safe place, and contact Lottery Headquarters at 609-599-5875 to arrange to file a claim for this multimillion-dollar jackpot prize,” said John M. White, New Jersey Lottery’s Acting Executive Director.

White also noted that the Powerball winner came just a couple of months after Vernon resident Richard Wahl set a new record for the largest lottery prize ever won in New Jersey. Wahl landed a Mega Millions jackpot of $533 million on Friday 30th March.

Powerball Jackpots in 2018

The Powerball jackpot has now been won four times since the start of the year. A New Hampshire player pocketed the biggest prize of the year on Saturday 6th January when she won $559.7 million, before a Pennsylvania player banked $456.7 million on Saturday 17th March and someone from Louisiana won $55.9 million a week later on Saturday 24th March.

The jackpot will now start again at $40 million in the next draw on Wednesday, giving players another opportunity to try and win a fabulous sum of money. Tickets are available from authorised retailers, or you can take part by choosing numbers online.
