Friday, December 1, 2017

An Irish Lotto jackpot winner has spoken of her disbelief after discovering that she was in possession of a ticket worth €7.5 million. The Tipperary woman, who played as part of a larger syndicate, claimed she concealed the playslip in the pages of a book for safe keeping before sharing the news with her fellow group members.

To Tell or Not to Tell?

Having purchased a Quick Pick ticket from Eason’s store in Thurles Shopping Centre, Co Tipperary, before matching the numbers 8, 10, 11, 25, 28 and 32 in the draw on Wednesday 25th October. The woman confessed that the shock of winning was so great that she refused to inform the other members of her syndicate of six years, but instead carried on as normal for a further five days, all the while searching for the right way to break the joyous news.

The Big Reveal

Having hidden the winning ticket in the pages of a book, the woman finally plucked up the courage to tell the group that they were millionaires. Of course, the news was greeted with scenes of jubilation, with each member left salivating at the prospect of splashing the cash on their loved ones. However, the group, who take it in turns to buy their entries, revealed that they are yet to inform their families of the win.

“We are all in the same frame of mind and the same age, and we want this lucky windfall to be a legacy for our families to last for future generations,” the woman told National Lottery officials at the organiser’s headquarters in Dublin.

"We all have children, some of us have grandchildren, who work hard at what they all do so we don’t want this to be a distraction for them. However we will look after them all in time. We are just so grateful to have this bit of luck fall on us.”

Further Irish Lotto Joy

It has been a busy time for National Lottery officials, after a claim was made earlier in the week for a €5.8 million jackpot. The Limerick winner, who bought their entry from the General Post Office on Cecil Street ahead of the draw on Saturday 25th November, correctly matched the numbers 4, 16, 18, 24, 32 and 35 to claim the seven-figure sum.
