$10.2 Million NZ Powerball Jackpot Not Yet Claimed
Friday, June 21, 2019

An NZ Powerball jackpot of NZ$10.2 million won in Hamilton on 19 June is still yet to be claimed, even after lottery representatives announced the shop in which the winning ticket was sold.

The winning ticket was revealed to have been sold in Whitcoulls book shop, in The Base in Te Rapa. Kirsten Robinson, a senior communications manager from Lotto NZ, urged players who had visited the shop to check their wallets and purses for money, adding that “nearly a quarter of this year’s millionaires” keep their tickets there ahead of claiming a prize.

She added that New Zealand Lotto winners had found other creative ways of stashing their tickets saying: “Winning tickets [have been] found everywhere from on the car dash and in the glove box to inside a piano stool and even in an underwear drawer. You never know where this winning ticket could be sitting.”

The results for the Saturday 15 June NZ Powerball draw were 6, 15, 25, 27, 28 and 35, with a Bonus Ball of 4 and a Powerball of 5. Over 20,000 prizes were won in the draw, though only one ticket matched all six main numbers and the Powerball to clinch the 1st Division Lotto prize of NZ$250,000 and the NZ Powerball jackpot of NZ$10 million. It is the tenth NZ Powerball jackpot to be won in 2019, and the third-largest ever won in Hamilton.

NZ Powerball Jackpot Claim Deadline

Powerball prizes must be collected within 12 months of the draw in which they were won; the mystery Hamilton NZ Powerball winner has until June 15, 2020 to claim their prize. If the NZ$10.2 million jackpot remains unclaimed after that date, the money will be returned to the Prize Pool for future draws. The Prize Pool also receives NZ$0.55 from every NZ$1 spent on Lotto NZ games, meaning Powerball can guarantee a minimum jackpot of NZ$4 million to players across New Zealand.

The NZ Powerball jackpot has a cap of NZ$50 million. Should the jackpot reach that cap, a special “Must-Be-Won” draw takes place; if no one wins the jackpot in a Must-Be-Won draw, it is split between winners of the next division – increasing the amount you could win on a second prize considerably.

NZ Powerball is a supplementary game to the New Zealand Lotto, offering players the chance to add millions to their lottery win for an extra NZ$0.70 per line. New Zealand Lotto draws take place every Wednesday and Saturday evening.
