South Africa PowerBall XTRA

The first PowerBall XTRA draw took place on 1st December 2015 after lottery operators Ithuba decided to launch a new game to meet the changing demands of South African lottery fans. PowerBall XTRA gives PowerBall players an additional chance to win a prize in each draw and even become a millionaire. A jackpot of R10 million was set to mark occasion of the very first draw.

The jackpot rolls over each time it is not won, meaning that the top prize for Powerball Plus is occasionally bigger than the main Powerball jackpot! However, if the jackpot isn't won on the last draw of each month, the prize pool is rolled down to the winners in the next division below (either Division 2 or 3 – if neither division has any winners, the jackpot keeps rolling up).

In June 2026, Sizekhaya took over as the official lottery operator from Ithuba and renamed the game from 'PowerBall Plus' to 'PowerBall XTRA', along with a few small changes to the game's rules.

South Africa PowerBall XTRA Draw Schedule

South Africa PowerBall XTRA draws are held every Tuesday and Friday. The main PowerBall draws take place at 9:00pm local time on live television and PowerBall XTRA draws are held straight after. A random number generator is used to select the winning numbers. Results appear on the South Africa PowerBall XTRA Results page soon after the draw has been made.

How to Play South Africa PowerBall XTRA

PowerBall XTRA is a supplementary game to South Africa PowerBall which cannot be played separately, so participants must join in by marking the PowerBall XTRA option on their PowerBall ticket and paying a small additional fee of R5 per entry.

The game works by conducting a separate draw, in which five new numbers from 1 to 50 and one PowerBall from 1 to 16 are randomly selected. Players who opted in will receive an entry for PowerBall XTRA and can win prizes in nine tiers just like the main PowerBall game, starting from a fixed R5 for matching just the PowerBall.
