South Africa Lotto 5 Max

Lotto 5 Max was first drawn on Wednesday 2nd August 2017, offering a third chance for players’ Lotto numbers to win prizes. Lotto 5 Max can only be played alongside Lotto and Lotto Plus 1, although you can play Lotto and Lotto Plus 1 without opting into Lotto 5 Max.

Lotto Plus 1 and Lotto 5 Max each cost an extra R2.50 on top of the R5 Lotto ticket price. Lotto 5 Max used to be called Lotto Plus 2, but was renamed in June 2026.

South Africa Lotto 5 Max Draws

Draws take place alongside the South Africa Lotto and Lotto Plus 1 draws from 8:56pm local time on Wednesday and Saturday nights. They are broadcast across the country on SABC 2 and results appear on the Results page soon after.

How to Play and Win South Africa Lotto 5 Max

Players use the six numbers chosen from 52 for the Lotto draw in both Lotto Plus 1 and Lotto 5 Max. Entries are made by selecting the Lotto Plus 1 and Plus 2 options on the Lotto playslip when purchasing your lines.

Prizes range from R10 for matching three main numbers to the jackpot, usually worth a seven or eight-figure sum. See the Prizes page for more details on the awards you can claim.

Lotto 5 Max Jackpot Cascades

Unlike Lotto and Lotto Plus 1, the jackpot does not roll up indefinitely until it's won for Lotto 5 Max. On the final draw of each month, if there are no jackpot winners, the jackpot prize pool is rolled down to the tiers below, increasing their prizes. This is called a 'Jackpot Cascade'.
