French Loto

Loto is one of the most popular games offered by Française des Jeux (FDJ), the operator of all lottery games in France. The French Loto has been making millionaires and paying out non-jackpot prizes since 1976.

Drawings are held on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday evenings at 20.35 CET and the starting jackpot is worth €2 million, which increases by €1 million for the following draw each time it isn’t won.

How to Play and Win French Loto

Players select five numbers from 1 to 49 and a Chance number from 1 to 10 and pay €2.20 for a ticket. To win the top prize, a ticket holder needs to match all six numbers drawn. There are also other prizes available, from a €2.20 reimbursement for matching just the Chance number to €100,000 for matching all five main numbers.

The jackpot can roll over 34 times and if there is no top-tier winner after that, then the money is rolled down and evenly distributed among players in the highest winning tier. All prizes are paid out as tax-free lump sums, but those who bought their French Loto tickets via a concierge will need to consult tax advisers in their own location.

2nd Draw

French Loto players can also opt in to a 2nd Draw for an additional €0.80, giving them another chance to win up to €100,000. The 2nd Draw is a separate draw in which another five winning numbers between 1 and 49 are selected. Players use the same numbers they picked for the main Loto draw, and if they match all five of the numbers in the 2nd Draw, they win €100,000. The Chance number is not used in the 2nd Draw.

There are also prizes for matching two, three, or four numbers. Go to the French Loto Prizes page to find out more about the prizes on offer in the 2nd Draw.

French Loto Raffle

The French Loto Raffle is a supplementary game which guarantees that ten players in each draw will win €20,000. A random raffle code is printed alongside every line played on French Loto, and the ticket holders with matching codes will all win €20,000 each. Special draws are also held sometimes to create even more raffle winners, such as on 22nd December 2017 when there were 100 winners of €20,000 chosen to celebrate Christmas.
